Pupil Parliament visit UK Government

From Leeds to London: Our Pupil Parliament Takes on Westminster!

On Tuesday 10th February, our Pupil Parliament embarked on an epic journey to the heart of British democracy. It was a day filled with firsts, famous landmarks and a deep dive into how our country is run.

The adventure began early as the children travelled from Leeds by bus, train and tube, navigating the busy London transport system with impressive confidence!

Upon arrival at Westminster, the group was treated to an immersive tour of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. They stood in the very rooms where national laws are debated and were particularly fascinated by the contrast between the famous green and red benches. A significant highlight was meeting a Lord who has served for 47 years, offering the children a rare and personal insight into a lifetime of public service.

Following the tour, the representatives participated in a specialised workshop exploring the history of the UK government and the evolution of democracy. Trinity, one of our Year 6 representatives, shared her excitement, saying:

Standing where the Prime Minister speaks felt incredible, and hearing from a Lord who has been there for nearly 50 years made history feel real."

Miss Bevan, who led the trip, noted the impact of the experience: "Seeing the children engage so thoughtfully and respectfully was a highlight. They represented our school with maturity, proving they are truly ready to lead."

The visit served as a powerful reminder of the vital role our Pupil Parliament plays within our own school community.

Our Pupil Parliament members aren't just figures; they are the voice of their peers. This trip has empowered them to see how their leadership at school connects to the wider world.
