Young Carers Update | 23rd June 2026

Dear Parents and Carers,

We’re proud to share that Co-op Academy Woodlands is working with Leeds Young Carers Support Service and is working towards becoming a Young Carer Friendly School.

This means we’re committed to:

  • Creating a school culture where young carers and their families are visible, understood, supported and signposted.
  • Ensuring staff have received training to identify and support young carers.
  • Working closely with Leeds Young Carers Support Service for ongoing guidance and support.

A young carer is a child or young person who helps care for a family member with a physical or mental health condition, disability, or difficulty with drugs or alcohol misuse. Sometimes families may not realise their child is a young carer, but identifying this can help us make sure everyone gets the help they need.

If you think your child might be a young carer, or if you’d like to talk to someone about support available, please contact our Designated Young Carer Lead, Mrs McLean.

We’re here to listen, support, and help ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive.
