The Pan-Tree Social Supermarket
We're thrilled to introduce The Pan-Tree, our brand-new Social Supermarket, a fantastic addition for our community!
The Pan-Tree was made possible thanks to the incredible effort of our Academy Community Pioneer, Amanda, who successfully secured funding from the National Lottery to convert a container into this vibrant, helpful space.
What is a Social Supermarket?
A Social Supermarket is a unique shop designed to help families stretch their budget while still having access to quality food and essential items. Unlike a traditional food bank, which gives away pre-selected packages, a social supermarket operates like a regular shop where members can choose the items they want. This system gives families dignity and control over their food choices.
How it works
The Pan-Tree will be a lifeline for many families, offering a selection of groceries, fresh produce, and essentials.
-
The supermarket will be open every Mondays at 8:45am, and Thursday at 2:45 pm.
-
Families can purchase a selection of 15 items for as little as £3.50, though the cost may vary slightly depending on what specific items are in stock on the day.
-
The stock changes daily based on donations and availability, offering a diverse range of products.
Run by our community
The Pan-Tree is run entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers working alongside Amanda. They manage the stock, keep the shelves tidy, and create a welcoming environment for everyone who visits.
More than just a shop, The Pan-Tree is also a community hub. We encourage families to pop along for a cuppa and a chat, even if you're not shopping. It's a friendly place to connect, share a moment, and feel supported by your community.
