A Special Visit to Jamia Masjid Bilal
Our Year 2 pupils had a wonderful morning this week as they stepped out into our local community to visit Jamia Masjid Bilal.
As part of their learning in Religious Education, the children walked together from school to the mosque. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to see first-hand what makes a mosque such a special and sacred place for Muslims.
During the tour, the children explored the beautiful building and learnt about the different features inside. They listened carefully as they were shown where people pray and heard about the importance of the mosque as a place for the community to come together.
Visiting places of worship in our own neighbourhood, like Harehills and Gipton, helps our children understand and respect the many different cultures and faiths that make our school family so special. It’s all about giving our pupils the chance to see the world around them and grow into kind, thoughtful members of the community.
One of our Year 2 pupils said:
I liked looking at the patterns on the walls. It was very quiet and peaceful inside, and I liked learning about how people pray.
It was a joy to take the children on this walk. They represented our academy so well and asked some really brilliant questions. Seeing the children connect what they learn in class to a real place in their own community is what makes these trips so important.
By visiting local landmarks together, our pupils are not just learning from books: they are seeing how we can all succeed together in a diverse and friendly world.
