    12 of Woodlands’ Year 5 and 6 children spent a week in Wales at Jamie’s Farm. The children helped the staff on a real working farm and became farmers for the week! Take a look at what they got up to! 👇

    📅 When? Monday 29th January - Friday 2nd February

    📍 Where? Jamie’s Farm, Monmouth, Wales

    🤔 What?

    Jamie’s Farm uniquely combines farmingfamily and mindfulness sessions into a 5-day residential with a focus on giving children time and space to reflect, to renew and determine a new path for themselves. We do this by creating an environment where they feel respected, and are given opportunities to display their talents and show responsibility.

  • Winter Illness

    Published 19/01/24

    Dear parents and carers,

    We wanted to reach out to you as we've seen a rise in viral illnesses within our community. It is important we all take steps to ensure the health and safety of our children.

    Washing your hands is easy, and it's the most effective way to stop the spread of germs.

    When washing hands with your children, follow these 5 steps every time:

    1. Wet your hands with clean, running warm water. Turn off the tap and apply soap.
    2.  Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers and under your nails.
    3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.
    4. Rinse your hands well, under clean running water.
    5. Dry your hands using a clear towel, or dry them.

    When should you wash your hands?

    • After going to the bathroom or toilet;
    • Before, during and after preparing food;
    • Before eating food;
    • Before and after caring for someone with an illness;
    • After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing;
    • After touching rubbish.

    By working together to practise this, we can create a healthier environment for all, enabling children to come to school every day and have success in their learning.

    Welcome Back 🌼

    Welcome back! It has been wonderful to see children back in school this week - it's been a fantastic first week of the spring term! We've had trips out, RESPECT badge assemblies and children working hard in lessons.

    As the colder months are here, please make sure children come to school in a coat to wear at play and lunchtimes.

    A few reminders for the term ahead:

    • Children can come to school in their PE kit on PE days.
    • Children should wear correct school uniform every day - if you need help with this, please get in touch.
    • Book bags should be brought in every day, with reading records completed.
    • If your child would like to attend an after-school club, please speak with their teacher or pop into the office to speak with Mrs Gray.

    Spring Term Attendance Prizes ✨

    Attendance matters: all day, every day.

    Last week, we introduced our Spring A attendance incentive! To be in with a chance of winning the top prize, your child must be in school and on time every day this half-term.

    Read the letter to find out more here.

    We've been made aware that, due to the ongoing conflict in Israel, some families are boycotting large corporations such as McDonald's and Coca-Cola. We want to support all our families who are taking part in this boycott and will change the fast-food restaurant for the attendance prize. We thank you for letting us know and for your understanding.

    Preparing for the colder weather 🥶

    Over the next week, the temperature in Leeds is set to drop and stay very cold. Please make sure children wear coats, hats, gloves and scarves when outside, especially when coming to and from school.

    If you need help with clothing and keeping warm, please speak with our pastoral team, who will be happy to help.

    Pupil Parliament visit Co-op Academy Penny Oaks 👍

    Last week, some of our Pupil Parliament members joined pupils from Co-op Academy Penny Oaks and Co-op Academy Beckfield for a session with Asylum Matters about their #LiftTheBan campaign! We can't wait to let you know more about our social action project and spreading the word about this fantastic cause.

    Jamie's Farm Skipton 🐄

    This week, 9 of our Year 5 and 6 children had their first visit to Jamie's Farm, Skipton. These children will be working with the farmer and his team every Wednesday this half-term to run the farm!

    RESPECT Badge Assemblies 🏆

    Last week, we had our next round of RESPECT badge assemblies! 👏 Children earn their badges for meeting criteria, following our school rules and showing our RESPECT values. 👍

    Well done to all our badge winners, we are very proud! 🏆
