Music
Music at Woodlands
At Woodlands, we believe that every child is a musician. Our music curriculum is designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love for sound, rhythm, and performance.
🌟 Our Curriculum: Powered by Charanga
We use Charanga, a world-leading digital music platform, to deliver a high-quality and inclusive music education. This interactive scheme allows children to explore:
- Listening & Appraising: Discovering diverse genres, from Classical and Jazz to Hip-Hop and Bhangra.
- Musical Games: Building a "musical ear" through pulse, rhythm, and pitch exercises.
- Performance: Using voices and instruments to bring pieces to life.
🎹 Expert Instruction
We are proud to have a Music Specialist HLTA (Mr Mitchell) who leads our weekly music lessons across the school. This ensures that every child receives consistent, high-level instruction that goes beyond the basics. Our specialist brings professional expertise and passion to the classroom, helping children master technical skills while having fun.
🎶 Beyond the Classroom: Keyboard Clubs
Music doesn't stop when the bell rings! We offer popular Keyboard Clubs for students looking to take their skills to the next level. If you'd like your child to join, let us know!
💡 What This Looks Like for Your Child
Not sure what "Music Education" looks like in practice? Here are a few ways our students engage with music throughout the year:
| Activity | What they learn |
| The Glockenspiel Challenge | Learning to read basic notation and play in time with an ensemble. |
| Digital Composition | Using Charanga tools to "remix" tracks and create their own unique beats. |
| The Weekly Sing | Community building through choral singing and vocal expression. |
| Improvisation | Finding the courage to "make it up as they go" during jazz or blues units. |
